LinkedIn audience benchmark · South Africa

The 100 most-followed LinkedIn pages in South Africa.

Every kind of organisation, ranked by exact follower count: listed companies, state-owned enterprises, universities, municipalities, recruiters, job portals and non-profits. Restricted to entities headquartered in South Africa. LinkedIn publishes no such ranking, so this one was built page by page.

The ranking

All 100, by follower count.

Pick any number of sectors to combine them. Once a filter is on, the table re-ranks from 1 within your selection and keeps each organisation’s national position beneath it. Use × to drop an organisation from the comparison; the ranking recalculates without it, and everything returns on refresh. Lavender ranks mark the national top ten, black tags mark state-owned and public-institution pages, and the Youth Employment Service row is picked out in its own amber.

# Organisation Sector Followers

What it means

A follow here is a job signal, not a brand signal.

Across 100 pages the pattern is unmistakable, and everything surprising in the table follows from it.

15

One in seven pages sells nothing

Job portals, recruiters and employment initiatives take 15 of the 100 places, led by Careers24 at number one. Find SA Jobs, Job Mail, Network Recruitment and Government Vacancies SA all outrank household brands.

13

The state is the biggest presence

Transnet, SARS, Eskom, Rand Water, ACSA, SANRAL, the CSIR, the Reserve Bank and three metros all place. Public-sector jobs draw followers at a rate private firms of similar size do not.

9

Universities punch above their headcount

Nine public universities make the list, UNISA highest at 711 831. Students and alumni follow the institution for life, which no employer brand can match.

3

Transnet takes three separate places

Transnet SOC, Transnet Freight Rail and Transnet Port Terminals rank individually, 2,44 million followers between them. A fourth page, Transnet Engineering, sits just outside at 153 700.

2

Professional services barely register

Only PwC South Africa and KPMG South Africa place, both in the 250K to 360K band. High-margin B2B firms lose this contest to mass frontline employers every time.

23

Retail and food carry the private sector

Fourteen retailers and nine food and drink groups place. Clover at 911 186 and Tiger Brands at 961 895 outrank every bank except the big four.

101 to 118

Just outside the hundred.

The 145K to 175K band is dense, so positions in the tail of the table turn over on a few weeks of growth.

Excluded

Counted as foreign, not South African.

Widely thought of as South African, but each lists a head office elsewhere, so none is ranked. Anglo American would place third if it were.

Method. Each candidate page was opened on LinkedIn and its exact follower count and registered head-office country recorded on 21 August 2026. More than 340 pages were checked across banking and insurance, telecoms, mining and energy, retail, FMCG and beverages, state-owned enterprises, national and local government, healthcare, higher and private education, media, logistics and automotive, construction and property, agriculture, tourism, security, professional services, technology, recruitment, job portals and non-profits. Only pages listing a South African head office were ranked.

Counting rule. Subsidiary and divisional pages are ranked separately from their parents, since each is a distinct audience: Transnet appears three times, Coca-Cola twice, Standard Bank three times. Where an organisation runs both a group page and a local page, both are listed with their own counts rather than combined.

Caveats. LinkedIn offers no way to sort or list pages by follower count, so a ranking like this is assembled from named candidates plus keyword sweeps filtered to South African head offices. That method finds large pages reliably in sectors with recognisable names and less reliably among pages whose names give no clue to their size. Two categories proved it: recruiters and job portals, several of which cleared 400 000 followers while being invisible to any list of well-known companies. Treat the top forty as firm and the tail as approximate ordering. Follower counts move daily.
